The panel is part of the anniversary program “25 Years of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung” and is a joint event with the Zeppelin Museum. The museum successfully participated in the “Climate Protection in Cultural Institutions” program initiated by the Climate Protection Foundation — a sub-foundation of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung.This program helps cultural institutions build the resources and structures needed to operate in a climate-neutral way over the long term.

The Zeppelin Museum is also celebrating two other milestones:

125 years since the first ascent of Zeppelin LZ 1, a breakthrough moment in Friedrichshafen’s history of innovation
Opening of the Zeppelin Museum in 1996, a driver of cultural and social engagement in the region

Housed in a listed Bauhaus building, the Zeppelin Museum uniquely brings together technology and art. It holds the world’s largest collection on airship history and serves as a space where past, present, and future come together in dialogue. With its interdisciplinary approach, it sees itself not only as a preserver of history, but also as an active contributor to societal discourse — especially on sustainability, mobility, and innovation.

Friedrichshafen itself is deeply connected to the history of technological progress. Beyond Zeppelin construction, companies such as ZF Friedrichshafen and Rolls-Royce Power Systems have shaped the city into a center of innovation. At the same time, its location on Lake Constance means the city is directly affected by the consequences of climate change — making issues like water scarcity, biodiversity, and climate adaptation highly tangible.

The panel discussion “A Boost for Culture and Climate” asks how the cultural sector can help drive innovation and ecological transformation. It also connects these themes with everyday concerns: How do falling lake levels affect us? What does increased urban heat mean for daily life? What are the challenges for agriculture? Culture acts as a multiplier — and a role model — particularly when navigating the tension between climate adaptation and budget constraints.
