The ‘Freundeskreis zur Förderung des Zeppelin Museums e.V.’ was constituted on 8 March 1982. It had a major part in the renovation and conversion of the listed harbour station building. Today, it has about 1,600 members.

The association assists the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen in various ways. It acquires works of art, which it then makes available to the museum as permanent loans. Every two years the museum presents the latest acquisitions in a temporary exhibition.
